LOCAL CHARITABLE WORKS CAMPAIGN

For many years, the Quebec State Council has been conducting a fund raising campaign called « The Local Charitable Works Campaign ».

This charitable organization was incorporated on May 13, 1970, under the designation « CHARITABLE WORKS OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS OF QUEBEC INC ».

The current approach of the Charitable Works Campaign began in 1978 ; it succeeded the provincial « Columbian Day » which began in 1962, of which the first provincial director was Mr Benoit Levasseur.

Before 1962, each local council had their own campaign to support local needs.

Currently, this annual campaign allows, at the provincial, diocesan or local level, to financially support needy organizations and individuals. Funds raised each year exceed one million dollars.

The State Council is responsible for organizing the campaign, advertising costs, prizes payment and tickets printing and distribution. Each Council receives 50% of their gross ticket sales for local charities.

The main charities supported from funds raised through the Local Charitable Works Campaign are :

• Quebec Bishops Assembly (Q.B.A.);
• Catholic Bishops Conference of Canada (C.B.C.C.);
• vocations support;
• priests and other religious orders;
• religious radio stations;
• helping various needy groups;
• the handicapped individuals;
• the elderly ;
• youth;
• fraternal aid;
• etc. etc.
